In CS2007.1, I want to write a new forum posting containing a Flash video.

So, I click the Content Selector icon and try to upload a .flv file of 5125Kb to a folder in my Site Files.

Everytime I try this, the upload times out after a few minutes with this error:

"The size of this file exceeds the maximum limit for this site."

I went over all site settings but just can't find a setting relating to the max. limit for Site Files.

Different Administrator for Different FOrum group

HI,

I am maintaining two different forum group (forum1 and forum2).I have lot of forums under each forum group.

I want to maintain two different administrator for two different forum group.so say admin1 for forum1 group and admin2 for forum2 group.

So now only admin1 should able to manage(see) only forum1 group and its related forums and even moderate only posting of forums of forum1 group.Admin1 should NOT be able to manage(see) forum2 group and its related forums.

Same thing applies to admin2.

How to achieve this.

If i make user as administrator,then user will be able to manage all forums of all forum groups

Any body give me idea about how to achieve it.

Spam in Forum Posts

I have a site at www.excelusergroup.org and recently have been experiencing a lot of spam. Most has a random string in the subject, is attached to already open threads, but has a Nice site! body line. I have played with some of the spam tools in control panel, particularly the regular expression one, but I can get it to stop. Many users are now getting frustrated as although I delete them quickly, they still get the emails.

Is there any other spam tools for CS that would help or can anyone suggest anything I can do. (In apps like Wordpress the Askimet spam tool works really well).

I do not really want to make people register to post but would as a last resort.

How to Add Custom Fields to the Registration and User Profile

After digging through numerous posts I have created documentation on how to add new fields to the Registration and User Profile. I thought some of you might appreciate it.

Background:
My Updates where made in CS version 2.0 on .NET 1.1.

We are a Christian university. Though we try to encourage free speech, we needed an audit trail (name and ID number) in the event that someone posted something extremely prejudicial, rude, or inappropriate. Further, we only wanted our "Community Members" to write to the forums (anonymous users can read). Three, we didn't want to display any of this new profile information to anonymous users. Four, we didn't want to display the full name or ID number to anyone but the CS administrator. Five, we wanted to gather some basic grouping information during registration so that registrants can be added to the right Forum groups (we have some private groups, like for faculty).

Unfortunately I haven't had time to complete a couple final steps yet: 1) Making a call to our registration database to verify users by ID (process is manual now), 2) Inserting users into Groups based upon their group identification during registration. *sigh* - someday.

Waiver:
Use this code at your own risk. We make no guarantees and in all likelihood this code will cause your system to crash, meltdown your servers, and unravel the very fabric of your company. Oh yes, and your wife will probably leave you too, if she hasn't already.

Steps:
1. Updated \communityserver.config. Placed this tag within the XML (anywhere is fine, I put my at the top right after the <CommunityServer> tag). This section basically setups up the additional data that we want to gather and display.

Editing tags causes the post to be "unread"!? Any way to prevent this?

We just started cleaning up some of our tags, and formalizing on some of the tags we want to manually add to certain posts for categorization.

However, it looks like when you edit the tags of a post, it marks that post as unread/new for everyone!!!

Is there any way to prevent this from happening?.... this is really bad for us.

Using Tags to sort content specific to an individual forum?

Is it possible when you click on a tag in the tag cloud, to return items that are ONLY from the Group ID's specified for what the tag cloud is showing?

For example, I would like to use the tag clouds that show up in the forums, as a way to sort the posts in that specific forum. If someone clicks on a tag in the tag cloud, it should return posts that have been tagged with that tag, BUT ONLY posts that have been tagged with that tag AND that are in that forum.

If someone wants to use tags to see things from all of the forums, then they can go to the main forum listing tag cloud.

Is this possible?

is there no way of putting a nice quote button where reply, contact etc is on every post as pressing the reply then quote is mmm.......................slow as it takes a while to load?

As an admin is there an easy way for me to see who is subscribed to a specific forum to receive emails of all the postings?

I have a user who swears they are subscribed to a forum but they are not getting the emails and I want to confirm they really are subscribed.

Posts are showing up blank

Had someone try posting from his home computer and the post just showed up blank. He went to edit it and after submitting the post was still blank. I tried it from my computer and it worked using his account. Any ideas? He is using Internet Explorer 6.

Place Introduction on Main Forum Page?

On the forum landing page, under the title (ie "Discussions") I wish to place some introductory/instructional text. Does anybody know what files I need to jump into to make such an addition?

This could appear just as the description does on the individual topics, except I'd like it to appear on the main forum page.

One of our clients asked something interesting. He asked for mechanism to allow users to make posts to a forum by sending an email in a certain format (e.g. to some special address with a subject line defining the topic) - is this possible? Does the forums have something like this already?

Unique meta descriptions threads on CS2007

We are currently on cs2.1 and about to consider an upgrade to CS2007 - just looking to find out the following :

For each new thread that gets started, we want to not only have the meta title as the thread name (that works ok) but to use say the first 128 characters of the content as the meta description for that thread.

Is this possible in cs2007? If not supported, surely someone has written a customised addon? Just need a bit of help to get started that's all.

We are considering doing crossposting for forums, this woud allow our users to post the same message to multiple forums.

Is this possible for cs2007? if not any plans on adding this feature in the future?

Date Filter does not keep it's settings

This is a bit frustrating. I set the filter on my forums to show all and after a month or so it defaults back to newer than 2 months. I'm not hitting the Apply (Temp) button either.

Can someone please let me know what I can do to make all the forums posts shown all the time?

Or can someone discuss with me WHY I would maybe not want to do that?

Poll Reporting

We'd like to make a report that shows all users, their location and their answer to the poll or a "not-answered" field if the user didn't submit anything for a poll. The current report only shows users that submitted a value for the poll, not all users and their answers/unanswers. Can this be done? What is the best place to put a custom report like this? I have my own custom theme.

Most Active Users doesn't work

Hello again,

Just noticed that the Most Active Users part of my forum does not work. It has a list of users but has (0) (ZERO) next to each name.

Yet, when you click on the "0", it takes you to that user's forum posts.

Any ideas?

I've read somewhere that it only includes posts in teh last day. Can we make it top posters of all time?

Anonymous posting to forum confusion

Hi!

First off, I've been using Community Server for about a week and think it's fantastic - nice job to all involved! For my community, I want anonymous users to be able to post messages in the forum. It took quite a while to get all the settings that are needed for this. My question is does there need to be that many settings? Or maybe I don't understand the purpose of them all. Could someone explain them to me:

1. Forums->Forums->MyForum1->Basic->Enable anonymous posting for users

2. Forums->Forums->MyForum1->Advanced->Enable anonymous posting

3. Forums->Forum Post Settings->Allow user posting as anonymous

4. Settings->Post Settings->Enable anonymous posting

Administrator Role Permisions accidently deleted, now we are locked out...

Please Help-

I have a website that I maintain for someone that is hosted on Godaddy.com. I installed the Community Server 2007 "Non Commercial" version that godaddy offers for free.

My problem is; While I was logged in as the administrator I went in to change permissions on the different roles and I accidently changed the Administrator role so now the administrator role is broke and all administrator accounts can no longer make any changes, so my questions is how can I re apply the permissions to the administrator role and once I do this all administrators can just log back in as normal, or is there a backup login account that will let me log in and reset the administrators role?

Someone from the Community Server support team has told me to use the "MembershipAdminstrator" role but I don't recall setting up an account with this role and I only recall creating Administrator and General user accounts. So is there a default Login account that will let me reset the administrators role?
